Agentic commerce: get your products ready for AI
AI agents are becoming a real storefront. Shopify Summer Editions 2026 leans into it. You can now manage your agentic storefronts directly in your Shopify admin, and by default every agentic storefront has access to your products through the Shopify Catalog. The work is no longer optional. If you sell on Shopify, your products are already eligible to show up in AI shopping experiences.
Shopify Catalog
The Shopify Catalog automatically standardizes and enriches your product data. That matters more than it sounds. Data syndicated by Shopify drives 2x more conversion in AI chats. Bottom line: make sure your products are configured correctly and displayed in the Shopify Catalog. Clean titles, complete attributes, accurate variants. The catalog is only as good as the data you feed it.
Universal Commerce Protocol: control how your data shows up
For developers and stores that want to customize how product data is displayed in the Shopify Catalog API and the Universal Commerce Protocol, Summer Editions adds three pieces worth knowing.
Promoted Placements
Promoted Placements let you earn revenue on attributed purchases you drive. Placements use your existing integration, extend the Global Catalog, and conform to the UCP Catalog specification. If you are already integrated, you are most of the way there.
Global Catalog MCP
The Global Catalog MCP server lets AI agents search and discover products across the entire Shopify ecosystem. Three use cases: comparison shopping, cross-merchant discovery, and recommendations. This is how an agent finds your product when the shopper never typed your store name.
Richer Product Data
The Global Catalog extension adds Shopify-specific fields on top of the base UCP catalog tools. Every Global Catalog response includes additional filters, variant fields, and ML-inferred metadata. More signal for the agents deciding what to surface, and a documented spec to build against.
Online Store updates that hit your theme
These changes touch your storefront directly, so they are the ones your theme and merchandising team will feel first.
AI-powered search
When customers search your online store, the results are now built on AI-powered search infrastructure, including predictive search and typo tolerance. Want more control? The Shopify Search and Discover app handles further search customizations.
Rollouts
A rollout is a scheduled set of changes to your main theme, checkout, and accounts pages. Use it to gradually launch changes to all your visitors, prepare seasonal updates, or test different versions with an experiment. Safer launches, less all-or-nothing risk.
Shopify Markets
Use the graph view in your store to understand how your markets are organized, review settings from a parent market, and access the checkout editor for a specific market. One view for the whole structure instead of clicking market by market.
Product variants
You can now choose which product variants to publish or unpublish across your different sales channels and product catalogs. When you unpublish a variant from a specific channel, that variant is hidden from being displayed there. Channel-level control without splitting your catalog.
Customer accounts
Customer accounts got a design uplift. Easier navigation, clearer order tracking, more intuitive and accessible structure, and mobile optimizations. A better post-purchase experience with no work on your end.
