How Much is the Shopify Plus Monthly Cost?

Shopify Plus pricing has a floor of $2,300/month for a Shopify Plus license. This license allows you to create up to 9 expansion stores, many merchants use these expansion stores to create stores in different countries (and languages). When you are considering your monthly cost, keep in mind you get these additional expansion stores for free! Those expansion stores serve to lower your effective monthly charge if you spread the $2,300 across these different sites.

Is there a Variable Shopify Plus Price?

Yes! Let me explain by walking you through an example:

If your store (or multiple stores) transact between $0 and $800,000 USD per month, Shopify Plus pricing will be a flat $2,300 USD per month. On an annual basis this means that if your store(s) under your Plus license do less than $9.6 million/year your annual Shopify Plus fees will be $27,600/year.

If your store transacts more than $800,000 per month Shopify Plus will transition you to 0.25% of store sales per month (aggregated across all stores under the same Plus contract). In summary, there is a pricing floor for Plus of $2,300 USD/month and if your sales exceed $800,000 USD in a month your pricing will change to a variable rate of 0.25% per transaction.

How much are Shopify Plus Credit Card Transaction Fees?

There are many things to consider when you evaluate Shopify Plus credit card transaction fees, here is a quick rundown of how the fees work assuming you use Shopify Payments:

  • US customers credit card fees Visa and Mastercard 2.15% + $.30/transaction
  • US customers credit card fees Amex 3.15% + $.30/transaction
  • International customers credit card fees 3.15% + $.30/transaction

Are you considering using a 3rd party payment gateway instead of Shopify Payments? If you are in the US check out this list of 3rd party payment gateways to see if your gateway is included in the list. You will find many of the large 3rd party payment providers available to use: Paypal, Affirm, Authorize.net, Quickbooks and over 50 just in the US. It’s important to note that if you do choose a 3rd payment provider you will pay an additional .15% transaction on top of the rate your 3rd party processor charges you. For example, let’s say you had a rate from Authorize.net of 1.8%, you would pay a total of 1.8% + .15% = 1.95% to process payments via Authorize.net on Shopify Plus.

It’s also important to note that the rates above can be negotiated with Shopify. Shopify Pay is such a great feature for reducing checkout friction we encourage most merchants to go with Shopify Payments whenever possible.

How Much do Shopify Plus Apps Cost?

Prices on the Shopify app store run from FREE (who doesn’t love that) to $500 and up a month. There are many categories of apps in the store, here are some of the most popular:

  • Store Design
  • Sales and Conversion
  • Marketing
  • Shipping
  • Inventory Management
  • Finances

In each of the categories ½ of the apps are free and ½ are paid and even many of the paid apps come with a free trial. It doesn’t hurt to try out different apps in your store, but be careful when you install an app and remove it, many apps can leave by behind excess code that can slow down your store.

What does it Cost to Migrate Data to Shopify Plus?

Migrating ecommerce platforms is a big endeavor! There are so many things to consider and one of the first is the cost to migrate your data to Shopify Plus. Here are the most common types of data we help customers move over to Plus:

  • Order Data
  • Customer Data
  • Product Data
  • Customer Reviews
  • 301 Redirects

Migrating order, customer and product data to your new Shopify Plus store is a must. Your customers expect a seamless transition to your new store and will want to look up past order history to make repeat purchases. In addition, you will want to migrate all of your product reviews, we can help export that data and move it over to a number of Shopify review options: Shopify native review functionality, Stamped.io, Yotpo or a number of other popular review apps. Finally, don’t forget about SEO, when you move to Shopify your URL structure will change and it’s critical that you your 301 redirects created so when customers click on your old Google listings they will be taken to the new URL on your Shopify Plus store.

Pricing for migration work is understandably very custom, here are some variables that will impact our quote for the work:

  • Number of customer records
  • Ease with which we can export data from your current platform
  • Total number of URL’s we need to do 301 redirects for
  • Timing of when we can do the migration – typically we do a large batch migration and then a final delta

Once we have all these details we can get you a quote to do the migration work. As a starting point, our migration services come in at $5,000, reach out for more information if you want us to create a proposal.

How Much Does Shopify Plus Design Cost?

Designing your new Shopify Plus site can be an exciting time for your brand. This is the time you get to reimagine everything from your brand guidelines, colors, logo and the overall look and feel of your new site.

When a company comes to us and is considering moving to Shopify Plus, they typically fall into 3 main categories:

  • Need a completely new design for their store
  • Looking for a mild design refresh
  • Planning to grab a Shopify Theme with maybe minor customizations

Depending on where you fall on the design spectrum your prices will vary quite dramatically. For example, if you use a Shopify theme and want very minor customizations your design costs will be pretty minimal. Most companies that come to us are looking at design as a way to differentiate their brand from other online stores and are looking for a unique and custom design. Pricing for custom themes starts at $30,000 and up depending on the level of customization, features required and unique templates you need designed.

What do you Charge for Shopify Plus Development?

Shopify Plus development pricing will depend on the scope of work you need Ambaum to build for your new store. Here are some factors to consider that will affect what your development costs will be on your new store:

  • Level of design customization
  • Total number of pages you need built
  • 3rd party integrations you need
  • Custom app development

If you opt for a unique and custom design that is going to take us more time to code into the Shopify liquid templates. If you want 8 pages developed (and all unique) that will take us more time than if we only have 3 or 4 unique pages. If you have internal software, API work you need help or to connect to a fulfillment center that will take us longer on the development side. Finally, if you need Ambaum to build a Shopify custom app that can significantly increase the scope and complexity of the project depending on the features required.
