Shopify continues to roll out monthly updates at a rapid pace, and the August 2025 release didn’t disappoint. A handful of these new features are especially useful for merchants we work with every day particularly those running complex B2B operations or selling in industries with unique order requirements. Here are the highlights that stood out most.
Support for Nested Cart Lines
This is a big one, especially for merchants in automotive, industrial, or other verticals that sell parts with core charges or bundled add-ons.
Previously, cart lines could get reordered, which often caused conflicts with 3rd party apps or made it harder to present charges clearly to buyers. With nested cart lines, related items (like a product and its core charge) can now stay grouped together. This should clean up checkout experiences and reduce the need for custom logic to handle special pricing cases.
Customer Eligibility for Automatic Discounts
Before this update, automatic discounts could only be applied to all customers, or to specific named customers. Now, you can apply them to customer segments, which opens the door to more targeted promotions without the need for custom discount functions.
For example:
- Offering exclusive discounts to wholesale buyers.
- Running promotions for loyalty program members.
- Incentivizing customers in a specific market segment.
There are still cases where custom discount functions will be needed (like when discounts are based on custom metafield data), but for many common scenarios, this feature eliminates the need for extra apps or custom work.
Store Credit for B2B Customers
Admins can now issue store credits directly to B2B company locations. These credits can be tied to a variety of reasons; refunds, loyalty rewards, retention efforts, or even marketing campaigns. You can also set expiration dates for credits, giving merchants more flexibility in managing customer incentives.
Even better: buyers will be able to see and apply credits directly at checkout and within their customer account, creating a smoother and more transparent experience.
Discounts on Fulfilled Items
Another merchant friendly addition: the ability to apply discounts to items that have already been fulfilled. In practice, this means you can now issue partial refunds via discounts instead of needing to process manual refunds. Shopify will automatically unarchive the order when you make edits and then re-archive it when you’re done.
This saves time for support teams and simplifies the process of keeping order records clean.
Honorable Mentions
A few other updates worth noting this month:
- Announcement Bar Extensions now available for the Thank You and Customer Account pages.
- B2B Checkout now supports Apple Pay.
- File Picker includes a "Generate Image" option similar to Sidekick.
- Analytics Dashboard can now be customized with sections you organize yourself.
Final Thoughts
The August 2025 updates show that Shopify continues to invest in both merchant flexibility and customer experience. Features like nested cart lines and store credit for B2B buyers solve real-world problems that used to require workarounds, while improvements to discounts and checkout options make running promotions and managing refunds easier than ever.
It’s great to see Shopify maintaining this pace; shipping small but meaningful improvements every month adds up to a much stronger platform for merchants.
