Automotive Parts Returns and Exchanges on Shopify

As an auto retailer it is important to have a clearly written returns and exchange policy for your Shopify automotive and parts store. Returns and exchanges are especially costly in the aftermarket auto parts space, because the dimensions and weight of many of the items are prohibitively expensive to ship. Writing the policy is the easy part, Ambaum can help you display your policy or a link to it on your product detail pages so customers are clear on their options for returns prior to purchase.

If you handle core charges on your site, you will also want a clearly defined policy that covers the products and process. Core charges are refundable deposits and the customer receives their money back when they ship the old product, such as an egr cooler, water pump, powerstroke injector and more back to the merchant.

Auto and parts returns

Exchanges vs refunds is an important part of your policy. If you only offer exchanges, make sure that is clearly articulated in your policy. Allow ample time for returns as well, 30 days is industry standard, but to stand out here you may want to offer 60 or 90 day return policies, make sure to test this before making sweeping changes.

If you accept returns and pay for return shipping this is something that should be highlighted on your product detail page (PDP). This is a huge benefit in the aftermarket parts space and your customers will be more inclined to purchase from a company that demonstrates trust with a policy like this, show it off! Conversely if you assess restocking fees, don’t bury that in your terms and conditions. You don’t want to dissuade customers from a repeat purchase when they try to send back a part and don’t realize they are going to get assessed additional charges.

No pitch. No pressure. Just perspective.
