There are many ways you can customize your Shopify product detail pages (PDP) for your parts store. For example a common request is to add a manual, install guide or illustrated parts diagram to give customers a better visual and understanding of the part they are buying.
Uploading a PDF is easy: in Shopify admin go to Content > Files, upload the file, then copy its URL and paste it into the product Description. Sometimes you don’t want links inside the description; you might prefer a dedicated spot on the product page (for example, a “Resources” or “Downloads” tab). Ambaum can customize your PDP to surface the text, hyperlinks or files where you need them on the PDP while building it in such a way that doesn’t introduce additional steps for your team when syncing products into Shopify.
Core charges are refundable deposits that auto parts merchants are required to charge customers at the point of sale. This needs to be displayed on your PDP so you can show the dollar amount you need to collect for parts like transmissions, exhaust systems, engines and more. You also need to indicate the time frame the parts need to be received by and add the charge as a separate line item to the cart prior to checkout.
Compelling product descriptions are critical for your customer, but also extremely important for both search engine optimization (SEO) and generative engine optimization (GEO). You want unique and creative content that accurately reflects your product, skip the cookie cutter copy and paste of your product details provided by your manufacturer.
Somewhere below your product images, description and technical content you should be adding cross sell and upsell products. This is especially important for kits, or components that fit into a bundle of products that your customer is looking to purchase.
Visually display your inventory levels if you are unable to build or source your products on demand. You don’t want your customer purchasing suspension kits, driveshafts, air flow filters and more and then finding out later you can’t fulfill the product. Give multiple shipping options and clearly mark the costs and estimated delivery dates associated with each on your PDP. If you have out of stock parts, allow your customers to sign up to receive emails and/or texts when that part comes back in stock.
You can also add warnings to your PDP. If you sell in California, you are subject to California Prop 65 rule where you must notify customers if your products contain chemicals at levels above certain thresholds. Ambaum can help you add a disclaimer on your PDP or even a pop modal to ensure customers are notified.
Let’s assume you sell used aftermarket auto parts on your site. Each part needs proper images, but ideally it also includes a grading. This grading lets customers know the condition of the part before they receive it and will help cut down on costly returns and exchanges. You can add star ratings, circles shaded in with color, examples of what pristine condition looks like, etc, etc.
